Installation of new Rotaract club in Stamford at the Stamford Rotary Club

On August 29 the Stamford Rotaract Club was installed. James the President has been working at this for awhile(3 years). They have a Peacepole project, installing Peace poles at every elementary and middle school in Bridgeport(20 schools) They are well on their way.

Here's some pictures of Governor Trish installing the Stamford Rotaract Club with the President of Stamford RC, Chris Farrugio,  and Kevin Guptil, Rotaract Chair looking on.

The Stamford Rotaract Club was given a large Rotary bell to help them get started plus a check to help fund more Peace poles.
James who has worked so hard at this was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow.

Wallingford Rotary Club-August 30

The Wallingford Rotary club meets at the Library Bar and Bistro. Yes the building was formerly a public library but what a beautiful building. The owner also owns a vineyard so the wine is probably good but I didn't test that.

Here is their President Maryam Taylor discussing some of their plans
And here's a member discussing the Antique Car Show they have planned for September 9. It's a fund raiser that they have done in the past.

I lived in Rye, New York for many years. A visiting Rotarian at this meeting was Tom Saunders a Rotarian from Rye, NY who is moving to Connecticut. His daughter and my daughter were close friends but have lost touch. Now they can be in touch again. Tom is trying to decide what CT Rotary club to join. What a small world. Tom is the handsome one on the right.

I also met Ellen Mandes a Past District Governor at this meeting. She was Governor from 1998-99, the first woman governor in our District. She was Assistant Governor under Mac Leask before that.  She had some advice for me i.e. be sure to include some fun things in your District Conference!!

The New Exchange Students are here and Districts 7890, 7910 and 7980 welcomed them

We welcomed 10 new exchange students to our three Districts.

Here's a student from Japan sharing where she lives in Japan and where she will be living in Massachusetts. Joanne Corvino, our District's outbound chair,  is holding the map so the students can point out from where they come. from

The students were informed and discussed how to have a successful youth exchange. They also swam, kayaked, canoed and played volleyball(girls vs boys).

Saturday night they gathered around a campfire and made S'mores, a totally American tradition.

And Sunday there was a picnic for Rotarians, host families and others. For this picture, they held their country flags, the American flag and wore their vests. All agreed that they were well welcomed.

East Hampton Rotary Club and 44 years of perfect attendance

At the East Hampton Rotary Club on August 23 our Police Chief, an Officer and his dog came to show us their capabilities. We helped bring the Police Dog to town.

Charlie Hnilicka, shown below, was given the award for 44 years of perfect attendance. That's longer than many of us have been alive. Charlie for years was a key for the East Haddam Rotary club. Recently he has joined East Hampton

Here's Kevin Reich in background leading the meeting with Greg Pugatch and Bruce Shepherd in the foreground. Bruce is another member with a long tenure in Rotary.

The Sargent at Arms at East Hampton plays a very important role in keping us all interested and protective. He deals with  Happy, Sad and Fines. A past stellar Sargent was Kevin Keily. He was pressed into duty on Wednesday because this years' Sargent was out watching eclipses in Wyoming.

Middletown Rotary Club August 15

I was at Middletown Rotary club on August 15. The speaker was from Middlesex Hospital and talked about Continuing Care.
Middletown Rotary Club has co-Presidents. For the first part of the year Cheryl Duey is taking the lead. Here she is leading the club. For the latter part of the year Kevin Wilhelm will take the lead. See him below.

They meet in the First and Last Tavern in a nice private room.
The talk on medical care was interesting particularly for us older folks.

North Haven Rotary club-August 1

The North Haven Rotary club meets at the Breakfast Nook in North Haven. This was the first meeting for their new President. There was a good turn out and a fun meeting.

Here is the new President presiding with great competence
And here is PDG Rick Bassett sporting his trademark yellow shirt. His yellow truck was outside clearly indicating that a North Haven RC meeting was in progress.
So all had a great time and they started working on their Wine and Roses event which occurs in few weeks.
